Umitaro was born in Japan in 1978, he is a composer and multi-instrumentalist. From early in his childhood he had familiarized himself with piano, violin and ethnic drums. and started composing through self-study and majored musicology at Tokyo University of the Arts and University of Paris 8. Since then, he has been working in a range of fields such as theater, film, TV drama, collaborating with different creators. He also performed as solo musician and has his own ensemble.
Since 2007, Abe has been working on music for theater pieces directed by Yukio Ninagawa.
In 2013 Umitaro composed music (in collaboration with Rocket Matsu) and was the music director for the musical ‘The Cat That Lived a Million Times’ directed by Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak.
In 2014 Umitaro collaborated with Mayu Gonto and Hirofumi Nakamura composing, and performing the creation WALLFLOWER.
